Link Building

What are links?

Links are terms used to find information on the web. Similar to keywords but are "active links" so then when you click on them they take you to a new location on the web.

Links can be internal or out going. An internal link moves the reader to another part of the website. For example a link on a post could send you to a page on the site for more information about the post topic. An out going link is one the sends you to a different website.

Another type of link is an incoming link. These are links to this website from another website. Your out going link is an incoming link to the target website.

Why are they important?

Links are essential to navigating the website and the web. They allow people to easily move from page to page inside a website and move from one website to another.

Many links use keywords in their names. This helps the reader understand where the link will lead.

Ranking in the search engines is important for all websites. The better the ranking for a particular keyword the easier they are found and the more traffic they will get. Links especially incoming links are very important to the website's ranking. The more the better.

The more back links the better if the links are coming from appropriate sites. For example if you site is about trailers, an incoming link from the flower shop is not valuable. The search engines are looking for back links from other trailer sites.

Where do I get links?

There are many ways to get back links to your site. The first one most sites look for are from article marketing. When you send an article to an article marketing site, your resource box should have a link back to a specific page/post on your site. Once the article is accepted and indexed, you have an incoming link.

In SEO link building, the best links come from authority sites similar to your site. For example your website talks all about Dodge cars and trucks. A link back from Chrysler's Dodge website would be wonderful.

So how do I get a link back from an authority site? First have an out going link on your site to the authority site. Then you have to ask for a link from them to your site. You have to give them a good reason(s) why they should link to your site. And remember that no matter how good your reason is, they still may not link to your site. And if they will not link to your site, look for another authority site to link to you.

Link building services usually avoid paid links. The search engines will find them and ignore them. So why spend the money for no results.

Link building is a slow process and takes a lot of time and effort. That is why websites hire an SEO link building service.
