We all know about SEO techniques.  But do we have a plan?  Here is a simple SEO plan.

SEO Plan

1. Start with keyword research.  Find at least 20 good keywords that you can rank for.
2. Use a primary and two secondary keywords in each post or page.
3. Use the primary keyword in the title of the page or post.
4. Be sure the primary keyword is in the URL to that page or post.
5. Use the primary keyword in the body of the content.
6. Also use the secondary keywords in the content.
7. Be sure the content is readable by your visitors.  Valuable, unique, readable and useful content is very important to produce.
8. Market your content by obtaining back links (article marketing, directory submission, comment of other blogs in your niche, etc).
9. Market your content on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.
10. Market your content on social bookmarking sites such as Digg and Delicious.

Results

Your website SEO results are not guaranteed but this plan, if implemented, will go a long way toward good search engine ranking for your page or post.  Just remember that website  SEO is a never ending process.  Keep at it.

There are some basic techniques you should use.  I am going to go over my list of 10 basic techniques.

10 Basic SEO Techniques:

1. Your domain name should include your keywords.  But just as important is that it is easy to remember and spell.  That is probably more important in the long run than including the keywords.
2. Your domain extension is preferably .com.  Not because .com is important to the search engines but because most people will default to the .com extension.  So it is easier to remember.
3. Keyword driven unique and quality content.  Content is king!  Never forget this.  So create unique and high quality content for your readers.  And be sure this content is keyword driven.
4. Work hard to create a great title for your content that includes your keyword(s).  This is extremely important.
5. Us the H tags such as H1, H2 and H3.  Helps with readability and with the search engines.
6. Add your domain name to directories especially those with high page ranking.  This will produce back links.
7. Exchange links with quality (authority) high page rank sites.  Again this will produce back links.
8. Create site map and robots.txt files.  And don't forget to create a site map for your readers.
9. Be sure your URLs to your content are descriptive and have the keywords in it.
10. Social bookmark your content.  This is for back links and traffic.

These are some of the basic SEO techniques we should all use.

Start by thinking of search terms that your visitors would use to find your site.  Then test each one to be sure the results are in your niche.  Use 1 or more words as a search phrase.  Once you have these phrases you are ready to determine how tough the competition is for that phrase.

There is always competition for keywords that give results.  But how tough is it for you to rank on the first page?  Using tools like WebCcomp Analyst can make your work easier.  But you will still do a lot of work to find the best phrases.

Once you have the phrases, start to use them in posts and pages.

There are multiple ways to use the best keywords for your website.  I was recently reminded of some of the 5 best ways to use them.

First and for most use them in your headline and anchor text.  This is the most important place to use your keywords.

Other places to use them is in your content.  Be sure your content is readable.  So don't use them too often.

Use targeted keywords everywhere they will fit.  And that includes in your URL if possible.

What is a Robots.txt file?

It is a text file that tells the search engine bots what files to index and what files to skip. It is a public file so it is not used to hide files. It is only used to tell the bots what files to skip indexing.

Why would I want to have some files not indexed?

One of the easiest examples would be your legal policies. There is not reason for them to be indexed by the search engines. There are many reasons why you should have them.

So How Do I Create a Robots.txt File?

If you are using a WordPress blog, find a plugin to use. Once activated all you need to do is to add the instructions. And for more information on how to write the instructions go to robotstxt.org.

How Do You Make a Site Map?

A site map that can be read by the search engine bots is very important for your search engine ranking. The site map helps the bots find all of your information to index it.

To find out what Google requires in a site map go to Google Webmaster Tools.

There are tools to create site maps and you can create one by hand. But for those of us using a WordPress business blog, all we need is a Google Sitemap plugin. Just do a search for "Google sitemap plugin Wordpress" and find a free sitemap plugin for your blog.

Once the plugin has been installed and activated, your Google sitemap has been created and submitted. Each time to add content the sitemap will be updated.

This is the easiest way to make a site map that I know of.

Website SEO Blog Content

Blog content is king. Well at least on of the kings if it is done right.

Your blog content needs to be relevant to the website and niche. And it needs to be Keyword rich.

Business blog content without keywords will not help you to be found. Remember people use keywords to find content and websites. So to help them find you,  You need to use keywords in your content.

Internal Links

You also need to link between posts and pages on similar or same topics. Don't go crazy with this but do make a point to link each post or page to at least one other if appropriate.

Keywords help you be found and links help to increase your ranking. Back links are more important than internal links but internal links still count.

So add keyword rich content with internal links frequently to your business blog. Remember nothing happens without action.
