Internal links are used to help both the readers and the bots to find more information about a topic. Most websites don't have just one page or one post on a subject.

The bots don't just follow the site map. They also follow the links. So internal links help the bots too. But of the two the internal links should be designed to help your readers.

So map out your site (site map) and design an internal linking process to help your readers and secondarily help the bots.
